Cindi Ford

Artist bio

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University, Cindi Ford attended printmaking classes at Grand Valley State University from 1984 through 1989. It was during this time that her passion for printmaking began and in 2002 she continued learning more about this art form while pursuing her Master of Fine Arts from Kendall School of Art and Design. Cindi was awarded a fellowship scholarship.

Many competitions throughout Michigan have recognized Cindi’s work, and she has won numerous awards and has been accepted into international print competitions as well. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Michigan, where she has been in both group and individual shows.

Presently, Cindi serves as an Adjunct Professor at Kendall School of Art and Design where she teaches, yet still saves time to devote to printmaking and other creative endeavors.
About the work
Title: Overlooked Artifacts

Art form: 2-D

Medium: Etchings dipped in beeswax

Year created: 2011

Description of work: Wandering through my house, I notice that I have inherited, collected, and been given numerous ugly, cutesy, beautiful and weird objects. A few that family members have given me i only put out when they come over.
I printed etchings of these objects, to clean house and keep a lasting memory. I was able to reuse prints from a past installation by printing these images on the back side. Dipping these pieces in beeswax, I constructed my own wax museum. Some of the odd objects have evolved into compelling art artifacts as etchings.
I covered a large curved wall with prints. Pinning them away from the wall will give the illusion that each is a three-dimensional object. They are attached with suction cups. I want the viewer to encounter stories, memories from my etchings and then take a journey through their own space to find overlooked artifacts. Just as we evalutate our relationships with people, we must consider the relationships we have with our objects.

Height: 14 feet
Width: 18 feet
