John Hamelink

Artist bio

John Hamelink was born in Chicago and grew up in the Lansing, MI area. Today John lives in Holland, MI and has worked in the logistics industry the past 25 years. During his free time, John enjoys the outdoors, building things, sports, and spending time with his family. It was an expedition to the Boundary Waters wilderness area in Northern MN that inspired John to make a non-power wooden boat. Six years ago while building that first wooden boat, John discovered his artistic talents. Since that time, John has been invited to show his work at various locations and has been honored with several awards.
About the work
Title: Wings and Wind

Art form: 3-D

Medium: Mixed medium

Year created: Work not created yet

Description of work: Wind was first used to power boats over 5,500 years ago and it’s still being used today. It’s clean, it’s plentiful, and produces zero greenhouse gas emissions during operation. However, the construction of wind farms is not universally welcomed because of their visual impact on the environment. With an increased emphasis to incorporate art in development design of wind turbines, the use of this never ending natural resource can have a positive visual impact on the environment they are placed. You can’t see the wind but through butterflies and sailboats you can see its beauty.
