Marty Maehr
Artist bio I am currently a tennis teaching professional, and employed as Tennis Coordinator at Liberty Athletic Club, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. However, I have been nurturing an art career my entire life. I have taken art classes since age 7 at the University of Illinois childrens art program, and have taken classes throughout high school and college, graduating from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN in 1985. Despite my classwork, I consider myself a self-taught artist, with most of my work predicated and fueled by philosophical and spiritual ideas. Although I've spent many years drawing with colored pencils, I now paint, exclusively, with oil. I think of my artwork as an ever- evolving process, however, a constant feature of my work is my use of vibrant color, and the color spectrum has become a language for me. I'm currently represented by Agora Gallery in New York, and have recently shown my work in Lisbon, Portugal (October 2010), Milan, Italy (April 2011), and Champaign- Urbana, Illinois.

Description of work: My "Free Spirit Garden" is a work in progress, which includes Free Spirit Plants and Animals...the images that are showing are of paintings that have been completed, and some as they were developing.
