Description of work: My work is a 4 x 6 feet Flag Stamp collage. Over 250 varieties of American Stamps spanning a century, roughly 7500 stamps with the American Flag featured in some aspect on all the stamps, all utilized to complete a standard full size American Flag.
My work is inspired by SUNDAY AFTERNOON by Georges Seurat. He devised a method of painting, which used dots of paint instead of using longer brush strokes to create the picture. If you look at his paintings up closely all you see are dots, but when you move away from the painting, your eyes form the dots into a picture.
My intention was to accomplish the same goal, but instead of dots of paint, I would use stamps. When standing 10-15 feet away from my work, the distinctive American Flag is seen as a singular piece of work.
When approaching the flag, the nature of the work becomes apparent, all thirteen stripes along with the corner blue canton are all individual stamps, smaller representations of the larger work created.
