Description of work: Saying I do, is more than just the title of this sculpture. Saying I do, represents a most celebratory event, my wedding.
The principal elements of this sculpture derive from a collection of steel shavings that are a by-product of the steel manufacturing industry. I feel connected to these shapes, as they are descriptive of my youth, living near industrial Detroit along with depicting the physicality and movements of playing ice hockey. The interacting shapes evoke the idea of movement within a stationary form. While planning my wedding this year, I worked on this sculpture, manipulating the shavings through computer programs to develop expressive forms that are laser and hand cut in 14 gauge steel. By hand, the shapes are bent and twisted; the romance begins and continues.
