Elizabeth DeBraber

Artist bio

I graduated with an art major and history minor at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. While trained as a painter, I also dye silk, embroider, quilt, sew, and do performance art. Spirituality and creative expression are inextricably linked for me and I enjoy exploring that link and involving others in the creative process. In 2009 I made "Haven" for ArtPrize with fellow artist Stephanie Everitt Kirkbride and in 2010 I made
"QUESTionVISION" with John McNamara, Joel Van Dam, and Adena Koslek for the Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center. I teach silk dyeing, and work with various groups to make collaborative art. I sell my dyed silk online at www.colormusing.etsy.com and at local art shows, as well as sing in the Grand Rapids Women’s Chorus and run a food coop from my home. I live in Grand Rapids, MI, with my husband and two children.
About the work
Title: Immersion

Description of work: Life is to be lived in the here and now. Immersion in the present leads to joy and ecstasy. "Immersion" is made to engage the viewer in this moment. The intense color, the layers of silk, and the connection of the human form are there to enable the viewer to step outside of the mind and into the moment.
