Description of work: What is art? Is this art? "Eye Don't Know" - Going through undergraduate and graduate school, I was always asked these questions. To this day I still don't know. Art is in the Eye of the beholder. I know I love what I do and people enjoy what I create. That is a enough for me.
My work is a large mosaic of an eye very close-up. This mosaic will have the audience think about and draw their own conclusions to what constitutes as art. I think the fundamental question "What is art?" and the dialogue that follows is what makes ArtPrize important. This mosaic uses 62,016 little colored bbs in only 6 colors. "Eye Don't Know" will play with the viewer's eye. From afar the work appears photographic but as one approaches the individual balls of color emerge as in the pointillist tradition. I plan on having a video run along side the mosaic that shows the build process. |
