Seung Baick

Artist bio

I was born in Korea, December 25th, 1961. I am currently living in Atlanta, GA.
I studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and hold a Master in Theology from Emory University. I teach Biblical Studies in Atlanta and paint and give art lessons in my own studio.
My focus and style right now is social realism. My paintings acknowledge the political, sociological truths that shape our world but they also take liberties, reveling in symbolism and envisioning what the world could look like.
I try to use vibrant colors like Van Gogh and Gaugin. Geometric shapes and organic gestures merge together as well as nature and pop culture. I see art as existing in a social context and having a social impact, but I also know that art is an intrinsic force that emerges from individuals.

Title: 2oth Century's Real Icon

Year created: 2009

Description of work: There are several icons in the 20th century. However, in the history of art, there is a piece called "Fountain" by Marcel Duchamp that became an art sensation and opened up a whole new page of art. I consider this piece the true icon of the 20th century.
