About the work
Title: Nature Preserve

Art form: 3-D

Medium: Mixed Media/native plants

Year created: Work not created yet

Description of work: The installation of Nature Preserve represents how no matter how hard we try to control and preserve our native landscapes, it is only a piecemeal effort when compared to how much humans have interfered with the natural forces of the environment.

The exhibition's production was made possible with the support of the Grand Rapids Chapter of Wild Ones, River City Mechanical, and the UICA. The native wetlands species listed in the accompanying gallery map were donated by the Calvin College Department of Biology.

The essence of Michele Brody's work is to understand how we live with change while trying to manage the delicacy of memory and the constant flux of life. With each new project she concentrates on interweaving manmade, natural and living materials to explore light, color, pattern, space and time. My goal is to generate an alternative experience for the public to develop a new sense of awareness of the tenuous relationship between humans, nature and the urban environment.
