Description of work: An important component of the work of the cancer physician who uses radiation as a weapon against cancer is to decide which regions within the body are important to treat and which areas are important to avoid.
This entry is a visualization of the dichotomy of target and avoidance-- an artistic representation of the conflict in the goals in cancer care of 1) working to eradicate the desired target of cancer therapy with higher doses of radiation while 2) reducing the potential adverse effects of treatment to the avoidance structures by minimizing radiation dosage delivered to these regions.
Nine panels will be displayed, each representing a different circumstance in which the concepts of target and avoidance are utilized.
