Edwin Moody

Artist bio

Edwin G Moody 10/16/1949 born in Northampton Massachusetts. My formal art education ended at Battle Creek Central High School in 1967. I began pumpkin carving at 6 years old and started actually sculpting pumpkins 25 years ago as a special treat for my sons. I dreamd of a cinderella type carriage pumpkin for 10 years before I actually found a giant 590# pumpkin which I sculpted as a cinderella carriage. I am married 27 years to Ingrid we have two sons between us Daniel (wife Lauren and daughter Annabelle 3mos) and Trevor (son Trevor 5yrs). I am a licensed electrical contractor, master electrician and registered electrical inspector for Grand Traverse Co. With the economic slow down my job has been reduced to partime thus giving me the time to take this opportunity to enter Art Prize. Over the years I have created sculptures in wood, plastic, soap, wax, stone, metal and of course fruits and vegetables.
About the work
Title: A Princess Dream

Art form: 2-D, 3-D

Medium: pumpkin, wood and photos

Year created: Work not created yet

Description of work: A Princess Dream will be a sculpted wood carriage frame topped with a 1000 pound plus giant pumpkin sculpted as the carriage cabin. It will also include a wood sculpted horse pulling the carriage. Your princess will be able to put on a princess gown and glass slippers for photo opportunities with the carriage. The carriage driver will be sitting on a bench seat and will be a hubbard squash sculpted as a mouse with gold reins in his hands. The pumpkin is still growing and I will be posting photos and progress reports on my web site ( pumpkined.com ) as the season and work progresses. The princess gowns will be velcro fastened from the back for ease of wearing. I will be displaying the carriage in a tent with both open or closed side walls, depending on the weather. My display will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2 Michigan Ave. My display will also include a few 3ft x 5ft photos of past pumpkin creations and I will also be sculpting a pumpkin or two for demonstration.
