Artist bio My interest in many art forms was nurtured at Central Michigan University where I received a BA in art education and later an MA in Art concentrating in drawing and sculpture. Since 1973 I have balanced the careers of art teacher and sculptor. As a sculptor, I have always felt a connectedness to the natural materials of the earth.Native to Michigan's north-land are materials like clay, ore, stone and hardwood trees. These are intrinsic materials in my sculpture making. My home and studio are located north of Petoskey, Michigan.This landscape and environment are complementary to my work as a sculptor. My sculpture initiates and evolves from the human figure. All sculptures are intended to be 3-D metaphors that represent a sense of humanity or the collective strength of mankind. My sculptural process originates from an evolutionary sequence of drawings to making a maquette in plaster. A sculpture is carved in wood, then cast in bronze. Influences include Archipenko,Brancusi and Moore.
