Fritz Olsen

Artist bio

Nationally recognized American Artist, Fritz Olsen creates sculptures for public and private placement.

Fritz Olsen's sculptures may be found in two permanent museum collections. The Krasl Museum, St. Joseph, MI added "Bouquet" (marble) to its permanent collection in 1999, and "Garden Window II" became a permanent addition to the Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago in 2006.


Upon graduating from Eastern Illinois University in 1983 he established his studio on Goose Island in Chicago. At this time, the Artist was selected to design and execute the Chicago Neurosurgical Center's prestigious Decade of the Brain Award from 1990 - 2000.

Public commissions include "Cactus Flower" for the Westin Resorts in Rancho Mirage, CA, and "Lake MIchigan Bench" and "Phoenix" for Lakeland Hospitals, Benton Harbor, MI.

Other public commissions include Frankfort, IL Public Library; Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI; and Jefferson County Courthouse, Mt. Vernon IL.

Description of work: Infinity Ribbon explores the idea of the Mobius form. The sculpture is realized as a continuous surface with only one side and one edge.

Originating in marble, the cast bronze sculpture is further illuminated by an
oceanic patina with varying hues.
