About the work
Title: 1001 Tears

Art form: 2-D

Medium: watercolor on paper

Year created: 2010

Description of work: This entry is a total of twelve watercolor paintings that are the original artwork for the children’s book "1001 Tears". Amy Bode who recently adopted a daughter from China writes the book. Her intent in writing the book was to show an adoptee how much both their birth mother and their adoptive mother love them. In poetic words and illustrations the birth mother prayerfully and painfully leaves her baby, the baby grows out of infancy in an orphanage and is adopted by another mother who has been praying for her also. I chose a red and pink blanket to accompany the child through out the story, as a symbol of prayers and love and hope that both mothers have for this child.
