Description of work: Dervish cabinet is a further expression of curiosity with reliquaries, secret spaces, special containers and the objects they may hold. Historically reliquary containers held sacred objects, martyr's bones or clothing,etc. and find examples across many cultures In the middle ages some of these became quite elaborate and ultimately objects of veneration themselves.
In my take on this idea I'm more concerned with a textural object and the relationship to inner spaces. Perhaps the viewer would consider what things,ideas,they hold important, valuable or sacred. |
