Mandala means circle. Many things in our world are cyclical, spherical or take the shape of a circle- the seasons, the earth, life itself. Different cultures have used the Mandala independent of each other from the rose window in Christianity to the sand art of Hindu and Buddhist traditions to Stonehenge. I chose to make a circle/ mandala of song birds that we are familiar with in our area. To me they represent diversity and with their singing, an embracing of ourselves and our individuality. They are the embodiment of the here and now. As Mary Oliver, National Book and Pulitzer Prize winner put it "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
