Description of work: Sometime during the sculptural process, not the beginning, the sculpture decided almost on its own to become a grouping of four figures. The quartet idea was thus born. The poem was inspired not only by the sculpture but also by countless memories of quartets and the specific memory of Miriam's four brothers singing at our daughter's wedding. For us, "Quartet," sculpture and poem, has become emblematic of collaboration itself--a core human activity wherein weaknesses can be minimized and strengths maximized, each team member contributing to a cohesive and interesting whole. |
