Todd and Brad Reed

Artist bio

Todd and Brad Reed are a father-son outdoor photography team based in Ludington, Michigan. Todd has been recording Michigan scenes for over 35 years. Many of those years Todd spent as a photojournalist for the Ludington Daily News, where he won dozens of industry awards for his photos. Todd is considered one of the leading photographers in the Midwest. His love of the Great Lakes was enriched by 33 years of service in the Coast Guard Reserve. Brad’s journey as a photographer started as a young boy, jumping at every chance to carry his father’s gear on shoots throughout the region. After graduating from Calvin College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Brad followed his heart and journeyed into the world of photography and has quickly become a leader in his field. Both Todd and Brad are award winners in the Nikon International Photography Contest. The Reed’s own and operate Todd & Brad Reed Photo Gallery in downtown Ludington.
About the work
Title: A Year Through Our Eyes

Art form: 2-D

Medium: Photography

Year created: 2011

Description of work: Todd and Brad Reed each photographed an image every day of 2010 as part of "Todd & Brad Reed's 365 Project." The project started as a way for Todd and Brad to re-focus their vision and become one with their cameras again. The project led to 730 new photos, a hard cover limited edition book, calendar, and DVD.

We wanted to incorporate the project into our ArtPrize entry using all 730 photos from the project. We came up with a mosaic that uses 726 of the Project's photos, with the mosaic making up one of the photos and the "365" at the bottom of the image using the remaining three photos. The final piece is printed on canvas and measures 15 ft x 10 ft. Each photo measures approximately 5 in x 5 in. To fully appreciate our piece, it needs to be viewed at two distances, one far away so the viewer can appreciate the image the mosaic creates and a closer one so the viewer can see the details in each individual photograph.

Height: 10 feet
