About the work
Title: A Nickel for a Story

Art form: 3-D

Medium: relief sculpture in plaster

Year created: 2011

Description of work: Every relief is an allegory. Here is the story that created this work: An engineer married a beautiful woman. Their family grew with four generations eventually weaving their lives together. He was the backbone and heart of the group with a sense of humor that endured through trials and strain. In his youth he often asked his older siblings “A nickel for a story?” and they would oblige, knowing that his stories evoked vivid mental imagery that entertained for hours. Through the generations, with this talent he would teach so many things to the family - how to develop photographs; where to find fossils; how to solder electronics; where to find the best blueberry patch and fishing spot; how to detect good character in a person… His passing has created a deep sorrow that is accompanied by a sense of joy for having been witness to his life. Auf Wieder sehen.
A farewell tribute from the little child who adored him.
