Description of work: The Seedpod Suite is a set of 3 large steel abstractions based on forms from nature. The largest of the pods is 5x15x5 feet (see photos).
There are two ways in which these could be exhibited:
1) In an enclosed venue with lighting control - with the idea of combining these steel structures with neon lighting and sound.
2) In an outdoor setting, preferably on grass, but possibly on stone or concrete.
The Seedpod Suite follows a lengthy series of sculptures based on boat forms plus two life-size sculptures derived from the P-51 Mustang fighter plane.
The seed pod structures follow similar construction and engineering techniques utilizing stringers, bulkheads and hubs. All three series spring from my interest in the nexus of art & science - where pure mathematics and engineering lead to fluid, organic beauty. |
