Artist bio

Michelangelo's "Bound Slave" has a monkey holding its foot to symbolize that art is the imitation of nature. We have undoubtedly taken art beyond that, but I have a passion for wood and its art form. The natural shape of a tree, the wonderful strength you feel as you lean against it, the way it bends to the wind, and the aroma of its resinous sap are evidence of nature's art. However, trees are mortal. I use only the dregs of wood that are heading for a wood chipper. The ideal pieces have rot, hollows, cracks and too many twists to be useful even in a fireplace. From what is left, I begin my search for the tree's soul. With a finished sculpture, I feel nature in my hands. I have taken the last vestige of a tree and preserved it for the future and protected the art that nature created. I want you to feel the life of the tree and see how the final form flows with the natural grain. They are one of a kind and cannot be reproduced.
