Description of work: Thematically, my work is about the effects of time. Rust – the inevitable decay, in all her historic beauty. Trees – much more than I: strong, beautiful, patient, full of majesty. Technically, my interest in negative space and dappled light comes from my love of stained glass as well as Mondrian’s middle period, a reference that can be seen in the segmentation of small isolated areas throughout these works. The “surrounds” are made of wood that has been painted and treated in different ways to give a trompe l'oeil effect of oxidation, representing what man has built and my fascination with how nature denies our futile attempts at longevity. These four works; Phantom, Right of Passage, In Red Flux, and Winter Red are a small part of an ongoing series that still pleads for resolution. |
