Jason Miller

Artist bio

Jason Miller is a native of Memphis, TN where he obtained his Master of Fine Arts from The University of Memphis. Miller currently works predominantly in large format digital imagery that is often accompanied by unique soundtracks that he also makes. Miller makes everything from start to finish and never uses mediated images or pre-made material. He is an artist that creates using many different mediums simultaneously. For instance, Miller sings and creates phonetically derived poetry while at the same time building philosophically and visually complex murals using hundreds of single photographs that he makes throughout his daily life. In Miller’s own words, “Each photograph is a word and when combined the photographs form visual sentences. “

Miller is foremost known as a poet that uses both words and images to speak his spiritual voice. He manifests his ideologies and emotions in many different mediums, which include both photographic and lyrical formats.
About the work
Title: ZOOGALOCKA PALACE MAZE

Art form: 2-D

Medium: Solvent Ink on Heavy Archival Vinyl With Black Grommets

Year created: 2010

Description of work: This is an indoor or outdoor piece that can be hung on a wall, in mid air, it can be a floor or a ceiling piece. If in grass it is staked down, if on interior floor hidden velcro tabs keep it in place. By informing the viewer to remove his/her shoes before entering the artwork, this puts the viewer in a reverent state of mind for contemplation of conceptual art.

The Zoogalocka Palace Maze is an intricate and highly detailed photographic mural I made by photographing over 37 individual actors to play the cast of characters for my surreal fantasy game that extends from the chess board of the elite into a money maze where real people and corporate entities take the role of kings, queens, pawn, rooks, and bishops.

It is an imaginary maze-like game board where secret powers call the shots, but no one knows who will win or lose.
