About the work
Title: Tales of the Unexpected

Art form: 2-D

Medium: Cut Paper

Year created: 2010

Description of work: Scary scenarios, nefarious narratives, perilous predicaments and delirious dilemmas are all ingredients in Mary Gaynier’s tales of the unexpected. That “don’t look now, but…” moment is immortalized through the lost art of cut paper. View these fabulous paper “snowflakes” and yell eek, shriek and maybe even giggle, too as Mary points out the moments when fate climbs into life’s drivers seat, and humans come along for the ride.
Ms. Gaynier’s new work experiments with scale. Her paper cuts will range from miniscule to monumental in size. Viewers will have an opportunity to experience a fresh, and contemporary expression of the very traditional and culturally diverse art of cut paper. Ms. Gaynier’s work contains a humorous and entertaining narrative element. The narratives are opened ended, inviting the viewer to come to their own conclusions about the developing story. Her work is intricately detailed and viewers have the opportunity to discover hidden surprises in each piece
