About the work
Title: Be Still and Know IV

Art form: 3-D

Medium: Welded Corten

Year created: Work not created yet

Description of work: ArtPrize has been a wonderful experience for me. I have had the opportunity to create site specific sculptures for the venues I connected with in 2009 and 2010. This year I have created a truly monumental sculpture for ArtPrize. "Be Still and Know IV" is a 32 foot tall sculpture and will be installed as part of Grand Valley State University's Exhibition Center.

"Be Still and Know IV" is a sculpture that invites viewers to pause and reflect. We are all so busy, moving at incredible physical and emotional speeds - often without time to think. We are bombarded with news, much of it disturbing, and it leaves us anxious and worried. “Be Still and Know” presents us with a different message - one of peace and hope. In the beautiful setting of a small urban park, just up a gentle valley from the Grand River it stands. Towering above us, it encourages us to quiet ourselves down, to look up, to take some time to consider. We are not alone in our challenges - ever.
