Kurt Kaiser
Artist bio Kurt Kaiser received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s University in Minnesota and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Colorado. He has taught at St. John’s, North Dakota State University, and the University of Nebraska before his present position as Associate Professor of Art at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Out of wood, found objects, and other materials, he creates assemblage sculpture, which he has exhibited in many places throughout much of the United States, including New York, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Denver and San Francisco. At Aquinas College he teaches classes in 2-D Design and 3-D Design as well as Assemblage Sculpture and Art Appreciation. In his art he likes to frequently carry out variations of problems that he assigns to his students.

Description of work: This year for ArtPrize I plan to create a site specific piece. The work I submitted last year gained significant approval from the voting public, ranking within the top 100. This year's piece is likely to be made along similar principles: a sizable, moving structure of balancing trusses that interact with a variety of recognizable found objects. However it will be made specifically for the site, so dimensions are variable. It will hang overhead in an atrium. Like last year, a list of the found objects will be available so people can search for them.
