About the work
Title: Composer's Campaign: Taiko

Art form: 2-D

Medium: Mixed Media with Coarse Alumina

Year created: 2011

Description of work: The entry, "Taiko", will be a continuation of my series: Composer's Campaign. This five panel painting will be organized in the tradition of a Taiko drumming sequence used on the feudal Japanese battlefield. Nine sets of five beats would summon an ally to battle. This organized format is in keeping with the compositions of my recent work.
The Composer's Campaign Series is my interpretation of music used as communication in the field of battle. The notes can incite riots, inspire peace, tear apart generations and bind us to tradition. The composer is a leader in controlling emotions. The composer has the responsibility. Think of national anthems, think of Lennon’s “Imagine". Think of the primal beat of Taiko drumming, calling together the allies of Japan to help this nation now fight the battle of recovery.
The panels are painted with acrylic textures including coarse alumina, crackle paste and molding pastes.
