Richard Maurer
Artist bio: Richard Maurer was born in Alpena, Michigan in 1974 and currently operates a studio in Delta, Ohio where he resides with his wife and two children. Richard graduated from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan in 2004 with a BFA in sculpture and metal-smithing and focusing primarily on metal sculpture, furnishings, and architectural details. He has done a great many private commissions and has set his sites on larger public works and commercial commissions.
Artist statement: The process of sculpture is the finite desire to capture a state of grace born from the subconscious. Within this process I utilize the skills I have mastered as a metal smith and designer to express my version of beauty. This is an expression of the caffeinated soul dancing through time in hopes to share a voracious love for life. I believe it is the purpose of the creative existence to emulate our desires for beauty, passion, and lightness. My work stands static in space but invokes a potential energy from all directions and serves as a paradigm to the crazy momentum of our spirits.

Work statement: This work will be a culmination of techniques developed over the last three years and should prove to be a very dynamic and energetic piece. It expresses the ever expanding mind. If the mind cultivated to a still place we can experience the moment of great realization about ourselves and the world around us.
