Description of work: I am fasinated by bodies of water and therefore a great number of my works start out with water as the inspiration. It could be a small pond, creek, river, lake or the Great Lakes we are all familiar with, living in Michigan. "Along the River" started with a small plein air study on the Platte River in Northern Michigan, October of 2008. The late afternoon light backlit the trees, gave a sparkle to the water and lit up an orange maple just begging to be painted. Using the small oil study and digital photographs as reference, I painted a larger version trying to stay true to my initial impression of the river. |
