Artist bio: Born in Grand Rapids, I was raised in Belmont, MI. In my family it wasn’t, “Go outside and play catch” but rather, “Go outside and paint a mural on the back of the garage”. The oldest of eight children, we were brought up immersed in the arts. Our family vacations always included visiting museums and festivals of the arts. It was drama, dance, music, and song as well as painting, drawing and creating. My father is long time Catholic Central and Aquinas College art teacher/artist Jim Wisnewski and my mother Marie has been a professional cake decorator for thirty years.
After graduating from West Catholic High School, I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Aquinas College where I studied under Larry Blovits and Ron Perderson. I then earned my masters in Art Education from Michigan State University. I have been teaching art at West Catholic for 20 years and still love every day at work. My husband Steve and I have one son, Nick who is a graphic design major at Kendall College.
Artist statement: I have a passion for playing in art. Yes it’s my job, yes it’s my hobby, but it so much more. I love to experiment with subject and media. As a teacher, I try to give myself “projects”. And ArtPrize was just a grand opportunity to assign myself another project.

“We haven’t failed. We now know a thousand things that won’t work, so we are that much closer to finding that what will.” -Thomas Edison

About the work:
Title: Michigan Wildflowers

Art form: 2-D

Medium: oil

Year created: 2009

Description of work: I have spend this past summer creating 11 canvases that range in size from 24"x36" to 36"x48" and capture Michigan wildflowers. I used oil to reflect the brilliant colors in the Tiger Lilies and Daisies from my own backyard.

Work statement: My goal as an artist was to capture the quiet beauty of Michigan wildflowers that we often simply rush by.
