Artist statement: My artwork addresses fundamental aspects of my own experiences as a woman. These experiences inform the conceptual essence and formal qualities of the work. The sculpture that I am proposing for the Ah-Nab-Awen Park
is titled:"Gaia", an 11 ft. tall bronze sculpture. In Greek mythology, Gaia is the Earth goddess, the personification of the Earth.

The bronze sculpture is a massive rendering of a split woman figure, a deep gash down the side of one of the two faces. A tangle of willow roots and branches amass at the figure’s feet, rise through her torso and extend beyond her head. The piece is a tribute to the Earth mother goddess and a symbol of the current state of the planet. The goddess of the land and everything produced by it, “Gaia” incapsulates the expression of a growing global Earth-based consciousness. She exemplifies the earth as a living entity. I hope that this sculpture will inspire people to have more awareness of the Earth’s fragility.

Description of work: In Greek mythology, the goddess "Gaea" personified the earth. The bronze sculpture is a massive rendering of a split woman figure, a deep gash down the side of one of the two faces. Work statement: Gaia is the goddess of the land and everything produced by it. I have been fascinated with this icon because it incapsulates the expression of a growing global Earth-based consciousness. She exemplifies the earth as a living entity, that we must preserve and sustain for our children. I hope that this sculpture will inspire people, corporations and governments to actively engage in sustaining our planet’s fragile biosphere.
