Ron Head
Artist bio: Ron lives and works from his studio in Arizona. A Michigan Native who has spent the last 20 years in Arizona first as the owner of an Advertising Agency and then seeking a path to connection through art he decided devote his life to creating sculptures and paintings. His studio for original fine art creations has been a working studio since 1988. As a gallery and freelance fine artist, Ron has developed a presence at art shows, in private collections & created public works art.

Ron is a colleague member of the National Sculpture Society. A juried member of the Sonoran Art League, Arizona Arts Guild & Arizona Art Alliance. He was educated at the University of Michigan College of Architecture and Design & received a BFA from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He attended the Center for Creative Studies in Michigan and continues studies under artists such as Lincoln Fox, Richard Greeves, Tuck Langland, Stanley Bliefeld, and Eugene Dobbs.

Artist statement: Ron Head recognized long ago that his art is not of him but comes through him. He captures the essence of a moment in his art through expressive movement & dimension. He describes his style of working as spontaneous & his experience as transcendental. "I start with a brush stroke or a lump of clay and allow the process itself to develop the piece. Somehow each movement or color suggests the next. I feel that openness to the moment is an intrinsic part of art."
A lifetime of art & personal experience, combined with an interest in a variety of spiritual disciplines has given Ron’s work the dynamic representation of a multi-cultural & inspirational spirit. His creative interests have included illustration & design, intricate engravings known as scrimshaw, paintings both abstract & realistic, murals & sculpture. He works in oils & acrylic, terracotta & bronze, ivory & wood, large & small. Sheree & Richard Lincoln from the BrassWind Gallery are part of the Ron Head Studio Design Team.
About the work:
Title: The Healing Touch

Art form: 3-D, Film / Video, Sound, Internet / Interactive

Medium: Sculpture, Paintings & Mini-Documentary

Year created: 2009

Description of work: Speaks of the power of healing through sculpture and paintings, featuring "The Healing Touch" sculpture commemorating people who are healers. Includes 5 more sculptures; "Agape" of Christ the Healer, "The Prodigal Son" from the biblical story, the "Courage and Faith" depicts an angel supporting and keeping our firefighters in a healing light and "America's Angels", a soldier and and his guardian angel. Also included is "Angel of Abundance" a one of a kind terra cotta. The Healing Touch shows a woman gently touching the heart of a man. In this healing moment her left arm appears to be a wing indicating the divine nature in each of us. There are three mural size paintings of healing angels created just for this exhibit. The ArtPrize display will include a mini-documentary from the Artist about the connection between healing and his art and the stories behind the pieces in the exhibition. Ron Head will be available for meet and greet Friday September 25th - Sunday September 27th.

Work statement: This "Healing Touch " sculpture was initially created to acknowledge the calling of nurses, doctors, and those that have the gift of healing in their hands. This sculpture helps raise awareness of the need for all of us to reach out and "touch" our neighbors and fellow workers with compassion, to lift them up, to encourage them each day. We hope to inspire people to go out and share an uplifting or healing moment with others, to share just a simple touch or word of kindness. This exhibition has grown to encompass Christ the Healer and Angels as healers through sculpture and 3 large paintings.

The clay image of the Healing Touch Sculpture is being cast in Hydro Cal for the Art Prize Exhibit due to time constraints. Casting in limited edition bronze is planned. The paintings included could become part of mural project.
