Artist Biography

Sarah Weber received both her Bachelors of Fine Arts Painting (2004) and Masters of Fine Arts Painting Degree from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2007. She is currently an Adjunct instructor at Kendall College; teaching Foundations Figure Drawing and also participates in the Grand Rapids RRR Program mentoring art to children through creative lessons about art history.
Her paintings have been displayed in several galleries nationally including: Walker Fine Arts Gallery, Denver, CO; Lana Santorelli Gallery, New York, NY; Infusion Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; and Altered Aesthetics Gallery, Minneapolis, MN
Artist statement: These paintings celebrate femininity and style through abstract and representational characteristics. I explore fashion and the erotic appeal of women’s clothing. There are two series of paintings within this profile------ Stiletto Paintings and Carousel Pin-Up Paintings.
The Stiletto Paintings are primarily abstract with suggestive moments of clarity. The colors are vibrant with painterly brushstrokes.
The Carousel Pin-Up Paintings are flirtatious with a tasteful element of 'classic' innocence integrating carousel animals and pin-up girls

Work statement: The painting that I am submitting for Art Prize will focus on fashion history in relation to change-- past and present. Carousel animals will be integrated with fashionably dressed ladies. Since being placed at Peaches Bed and Breakfast--- I have researched early 1900 fashions--- relating to early attire of the Historic neighborhood of Heritage Hill in Grand Rapids. The painting will be tasteful, flirtatious, and sophisticated.
