Nicholas Oleszczuk & Jerry Slayton
Artist bio: Nick Oleszczuk and Jerry Slayton are two artists from Michigan and Alabama respectively. They met in grad school and collaborate to create large scale installations that incorporate and continually question media in all forms. The installations are site specific and utilize sculpture, video projections, 2D Art, and animation, among other forms of art.
Artist statement: Communication is one of many apotheosis of humanity, we have found infinite ways to communicate, disseminating knowledge, information and visual pleasure in all its forms. Indeed we have turned it into a science, religion and way of life. However within the communication of our civilizations there exists a paradox, opportunity for communication to be transformed and warped to the benefit or hazard of the receiver of said communication. We see it all around us today, magazines, blogs and news networks make capital off of the idea that information can be distorted and debated for ratings and marketing purposes.
The purpose of the installation would be to examine as artists what phenomena controls the transformation and evolution of language to symbols, symbols to code, code to language and so on. How does our media, the largest purveyors of communication, create a system that supports such rapid and consistent evolution of communication? More importantly where does it happen?
About the work:
Title: Obscure Television Lighting an Obscure World

Art form: 2-D, 3-D, Film / Video

Medium: Multi-Medium

Year created: Work not created yet

Description of work: The installation we propose will require two walls, perpendicular to each other, and approximately 8 to 10 feet of clearance in front of the walls. These measurements are flexible. The walls should be roughly 15 feet long and 8 feet high, also flexible. Within the installation there will be sculpture, animation, video projections and murals. On the image page you will see 2-D work by the artists in Tele-vague plus the mock up of the installation we propose.
