Blake Heminger
Artist bio: Blake Heminger has developed an individual style of photography over the past 20 years. While growing up in Grand Rapids, he solidified his love for nature's complexity and beauty. He is often referred to as one of California's rising floral photographers. After a career in medicine, he turned to photography, concentrating on flowers as his subject and digital as his medium. Blake's images have been influenced by such artists as Georgia O'Keefe, S.G. Rose, Shelly Bartek and such photographers as Ansel Adams, Tony Sweet and Susi Lawson. The alluring beauty, the bright and subtle colors, the intriguing patterns, and the contemporary twist to his images, has earned Blake the recognition from his peers. Blake’s digital images have received numerous accolades and recognition from Kodak, Nikon, Digital Image Cafe, Photoblink, Shutterbugs, BetterPhoto, the California county of Alameda, the San Mateo Arts Commission and the Art Council of Foster City.
Artist statement: I will always remember my junior high school art teacher, Mrs. Quinlan saying, “Your abstract style is cutting edge; continue to follow your dreams!” I find that using this art form of floral photography releases those reflections and life influences that lie deep within me.
