Ann Vincenti-Michelman is a working artist. She also owns and operates the Rafius Fane Gallery in Boston’s SOWA art and design district. As an educator for 12 years in art schools and private schools, she developed visiting artist programs and initiated a gallery space whose programs became teaching tools in her classroom. She created her ArtPrize entry over 10 years as one way of coping with her then-young daughter’s diagnosis with a devastating form of autism. The art installation she is now developing focuses on what happens to adults with autism (in particular, adult residences). In keeping with her conviction that art can powerfully initiate change, Ann has served on the board of directors of ArtCorps (Creative Action Institute), which partners with social change organizations to fuel social equality, protected ecosystems, and community harmony. She has participated in artist programs at the Vermont Studio School and Rhode Island School of Design.
