column within
2012 ArtPrize EntryThis sculpture is constructed with plaster-lath building techniques used before gypsum board was available. Light that is filtered through moving water fills the inside of the column. Viewers are invited to step inside the column and be surrounded by the dancing shadows. The organic patterns of the light play with the "frozen" liquid look of the hardened plaster that grips onto slats of wood. Optical illusions result.
