Model RAR, Homage to Eames
2011 ArtPrize EntryI am drawn to creating work that is monumental in size, based on recognizable objects one would typically encounter very differently in real life. Using scale, placement, and material choices as abstracting elements I hope to create a sense of awe, excitement, maybe even uneasiness with things we exist around everyday. My dedication to this way of working has granted me the ability to share my work with a broad audience here in the Midwest. This work is inspired by the Charles and Ray Eames RAR Rocking Chair, one to the most interesting and long-lived designs they ever created. I felt it important in applying to ArtPrize to create a work that reflected the rich heritage past and present of the great furniture design originating in and around Grand Rapids.
