Explosive Motion
2012 ArtPrize EntryAmelia Falk Art Statement move·ment noun 1. the act, process, or result of moving. 2. a particular manner or style of moving. In physics, motion is a change in position of an object with respect to time. Motion is typically described in terms of velocity, acceleration, displacement and time.[1] Motion is observed by attaching a frame of reference to a body and measuring its change in position relative to another reference frame. As there is no absolute frame of reference, absolute motion cannot be determined.[2] Thus, everything in the universe can be considered to be moving. Lately I have been very interested in capturing the state of motion. Whether I choose to show the blur which indicates the speed of the action or freeze it completely, there is always a hint of what has occurred. This may be shown through the folds in a dress or some other material which captures and makes visible the passage of air that happens during a movement.

Venue & Connection Information
The images would be mounted and laminated to large wooden boards with an understructure. Due to the size and weight of each image, the images are strung with shackles that are meant to have wire strung from them. Usually a hanging system will suffice but it needs to be able to withstand a fair amount of weight.
