A Photograph by Juan Fernandez

As a photo-realist painter, my painting has always been about control. When I complete a painting I control every aspect of the project from the initial concept all the way to every finishing detail. This project, however, denies this control. "A Photograph by Juan Fernandez" is a collaborative piece with the fore-mentioned photographer. I asked Juan to give me an image to paint verbatim. I had no control or influence over what photograph he would provide. The end result begs the all important question of, where is the art? Does the art lie in the concept, the image, or the painting? It is the viewer's choice to decide what he or she believes.
