Caledonia, MI,

My art has morphed as my life has evolved. I lead a school community, so my art reflects my students. As a member of a growing community of earth friendly artists, my work reflects the need to recycle, reuse, re-evaluate the materials around us. No longer do I create pieces with materials that I purchase, I let the materials purchase me. The everyday discarded bits around me become the foundation of my work. More and more I involve the children around me to become a part of the work that I create, hoping to instill the love for creation and the satisfaction of taking the benign and making it speak. My current pieces use the shrapnel of the school environment that I live in...crayons discarded after points are worn, and paper is torn. Broken bits become art. Our entry is a collaborative effort between six Catholic elementary schools and their parishes to assemble the story of Noah's Ark. The schools involved will see the assembled finished panels for the first time at ArtPrize.
