Artist bio Cynthia grew up in the West, Montana and Wyoming. The horizon there is chiseled against the sky. Lines are sharp. Colors are strong. Space is forever. She believes all of this influences her art. She has a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Whitman College, WallaWalla Washington and a bachelor of arts degree in architecture from the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho. She has worked in both fields. Cynthia came to Michigan in 1982 to work in industry. In 1993 she began sculpting. She continues to be inspired by the interaction between the built and natural environments. Cynthia's creates for both the public and private sectors.

Description of work: Energized by her experience as an artist in ArtPrize 2009 and by the extraordinary presentations of fellow artists, Cynthia decided to create a sculpture specifically for ArtPrize 2010. Visiting a site which is exceptionally suited to her concept she was inspired to create a macquette of her idea. Acceptance into ArtPrize 2010 will spawn the production of the 12 foot tall painted steel sculpture titled "Friends". "Friends" emerges from the earth both horizontally and vertically. It reflects individuality yet sameness. It respects diversity and likeness. It encompasses the macro and/or the micro. It speaks of universal love and compassion. Measuring 12'high X 20'long X 12'deep, "Friends" is meant to be touched, walked around, stepped through, and sat upon.
