Diane Schroeder

Artist bio

Diane Schroeder majored in art with focus in interior design at the University of Nebraska. Diane chose a career in the design field, but she never abandoned her love for her art. Whether it was three dimensional art interpreted from clients needs and desires or 2 dimensional painting exploring abstractions interpreted from life adventures, both seem to influence each other.
Diane has moved from a formal application of oil on canvas to a spontaneous palate of oil and mixed media. Her pieces abstractly suggest landscape shapes and textures and the translucencies and reflections of atmospheric colors. With the exploration of contrast and contradiction, Diane introduced collage as an exciting additional dimension to her work and she continues to define and refine detail and strength.

Diane enjoyed a successful design career for national and international interior architectural firms, she was represented by a Chicago gallery for some time and continued to build her painting
About the work
Title: Cold+Sun

Art form: 2-D

Medium: Oil, Silver leaf, Mixed media, collage on Canvas

Year created: 2009

Description of work: The work is a series [Cold+Sun] of 15 paintings that form one composition; 5 canvases across and 3 canvases vertically. Sections of the 15 paintings can form smaller compositions in a row of 5 canvases, a grouping of 6 or a group of 9 canvases, and at the same time, each canvas is its own composition, not requiring the next piece to be complete. The overall series is 100" wide by 60" high.
This series is filled with complexities of color, reflection, mixed media textures, collage and composition, while emerging as a simple landscape image that is reminiscent of winter sun glistening into the Great Lakes. The Colors and contrasts change with the perspective of the viewer's position, implying motion to the surfaces. Calmness and power reside together.
