Artist bio

Marcelyn Bennett Carpenter was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She currently lives and works at Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School as the Artist-in-Residence/instructor of the historic Kingswood Weaving and Fiber Arts Studio in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Marcelyn earned a BA in philosophy from Wheaton College, a BFA in drawing and painting from University of Colorado at Denver, and a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Fiber in 2003. The concepts behind her work center on interaction, flexibility, and survival using elastic and paper. Marcelyn’s work has been featured in exhibitions, performances, and publications nationally and in Michigan. She is married to Benjamin Bennett Carpenter and has two sons, Nico and Gracey.
