Artist bio Rick Beerhorst is the Patriarch of the Beerhorst Family. Both he and his artist wife Brenda Beerhorst have been full time working artists for many years. Working together with their six children and artist friends last year ended up in the top 50 with their Art Prize entry The Beerhorst Family Wonder Wagon. They have developed a reputation for life style choices both creative and sustainable that often fall far outside what may be considered mainstream midwestern family culture. They have lived without owning a car for 4 years following their return to Grand Rapids from their sojourn in New York City in 2005-6.

Description of work: We were in the top 50 in Artprize '09- with the Wonder Wagon. Our Artprize 2010 will be an out door installation that will simulate a post peak oil world where electricity is only intermittent and almost everything used to keep daily life humming along has been made out of preexisting products and materials. A combination of very old technologies with what can be patched together out of the rubble of what has been made before, fallen apart and left behind. The current world of high speed internet and smart phones is all an ongoing modern miracle that all works so well but the nagging question is if and when it comes down what is our plan B. Our Art Prize entry will be an artistic attempt to answer this question.
