Curb Appeal is a four minute looped series of "cinemagraphs" (hybrid animated photograph/video) that explores the disconnect between the outside perceptions and internal realities of our home life. Light, clouds and the landscape itself subtly shift through four, one minute scenes, producing a surreal and uncanny tension surrounding the houses and their imagined occupants. Displayed within a monolithic sculptural form, the square matte and screen command the attention of passerby's while offering a vague familiarity with the now ubiquitous square format of Instagram. Statement: The four walls of my childhood home bore witness to the full spectrum of familial function and dysfunction. Much like our own psyche, the exterior of our home is rarely an accurate indicator of the internal state. Through this body of work, I create surreal, hypothetical scenes where the land and sky symbolically suggest stories about the unknown inhabitants of the solitary structures pictured within.
