Alluring Relic

Over the years I have been drawn to images that reflect the ravages of time. In this case I was captivated by the trunk and limbs of this tree; knee deep in water off the shore of Jekyll Island, Georgia’s smallest barrier island. I wanted to capture the starkness of the tree and its reflection, contrasted with the movement of the water. This part of Jeckyll Island is referred to as Driftwood Beach, however, this tree has not yet succumbed to the onslaught of wave and tide. Erosion from strong currents and tidal flow made life impossible, yet the tree remains as a symbol of perseverance.
