Sleeping Bear Dunes: The 8th Wonder

Voted the “Most Beautiful Place in America” by the national audience of Good Morning America, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a stunning and beautiful treasure made up of miles of sand beaches, forest, unique flora and fauna, crystal clear inland lakes and, of course, the dunes themselves. These sand dunes tower 450 feet above Lake Michigan, affording magnificent views for miles. As a Northern Michigan artist, I feel that one of the most important ways we can keep our land beautiful is to recycle. My passion for designing and creating, combined with my commitment to rescuing that which is thrown away, emerge as the catalyst for every piece I construct. “The 8th Wonder”, my interpretation of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, is no exception: this mixed media piece is composed of discarded weathered fence boards, scrap wood, and a mixture of leftover drywall mud and paint.
