Immigration is a common topic of discussion throughout the world. The complexity and relevance of this topic cannot be understated—especially for the United States, a nation founded by immigrants. My entry, Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Does Place of Birth Decide it All? questions the immigration process, policy, as well as the cultural idea of who rightfully belongs in the United States. I am an immigrant. My family moved to the US when I was 12. My wife is an American citizen, which made me eligible for a permanent resident status. If it were not for my “green card,” I would have had to return to Japan despite spending the majority of my life here in this country. With all the recent debates over immigration, I find that it is important for everyone to understand the legal process, as well as consider any changes that may need to be addressed in order to ensure no people are marginalized.
