Red Portraits

This is a series of seven portraits of local artists and performers from Grand Rapids. An artist can make art out of anything. I choose to make it out of the very people who make the art. However, rather than traditional portraiture I am seeing this as a collaboration with me interpreting the subjects as a collaborative effort. There are two visual strategies being presented here. One is a complex alternative process that I discovered using aged instant negatives and alcohol transfers. The other images, shot on film, and then printed large on light boxes show multiple views of each, not as a single moment, but as a perpetual present. This was inspired by the cubist idea of condensing multiple views of the subject in a single image. The portraits need to be presented as a group and not a single image. I'm looking for a venue that will allow me to do so. The images I have uploaded show an installation of some of the work at 337 Project Space in Grand Rapids in May, 2018.
